About Penrose Brewing Company

Penrose Brewing Company was started in 2014 by Eric Hobbs and Tom Korder in Geneva, IL. There with a small team they focus on Belgian inspired session ales, oak barrel-aging, and alternative fermentation. Their beers at Penrose Brewing Company are brewed with intention, as part of a ‘beer first’ culture.

Penrose Brewing Company Review

Clare was my taproom bartender and knows the beers well. If you have questions or want to know what to get/not get just ask her. The place isn’t big but there is plenty of seating at the bar and inside (picnic table style seating). If you have a group you can grab a board game and play. While I was there I think just about every group (5-6) that sat down were playing a game. There is no food so watch for food trucks, buy some of the available (and locally made) snacks or bring some of your own food to the Tap Room. Date of visit: 12/29/2016.

Penrose Brewing Company Beer Review

As always I went with a flight of samplers. They have 2 taps for experimental beers so you can try those – based on the number of sour beers they make I imagine at least one of them is always a new sour. For the flight of 4 plus tip and tax it was $12.90.

  • Biere De Garde – Not something I get and at 9.1% alcohol I almost skipped it. Luckily it is only 4oz as it was pretty darn good.
  • Element Pale Ale – Solid beer, can’t go wrong with picking this one.
  • IPA W/ Honey – Just barely but this was my fave of the group. I thought this one was really well done.
  • It seems I didn’t check in the 4th beer – shame on ME!
